Con la sua recitazione naturale, spontanea e nel contempo incisiva, Anna Magnani ha dato alle pellicole in cui ha lavorato la veridicità della quale necessitavano.

“Nannarella”, come solevano chiamarla affettuosamente i suoi “fans”, è una delle poche personalità italiane ad avere una stella nella celebre Hollywood Walk of Fame, la famosa strada di Hollywood dove sono incastonate oltre 2000 stelle a cinque punte che recano i nomi di celebrità onorate per il loro contributo - diretto o indiretto - allo star system e all'industria dello spettacolo.
Ma non solo! Il 21 marzo 1956, infatti, è la prima interprete italiana nella storia degli Academy Awards a vincere il Premio Oscar come migliore attrice protagonista, conferitole per l'interpretazione di Serafina Delle Rose nel film La rosa tatuata, del 1955, con Burt Lancaster, per la regia di Daniel Mann. Per lo stesso ruolo ha vinto anche un BAFTA quale attrice internazionale dell'anno e il Golden Globe per la migliore attrice in un film drammatico.
Si racconta, addirittura, che quando a bordo del Vostok, il 12 aprile 1961, Jurij Gagarin compì la prima rotazione della terra, dichiarò: "Saluto la fraternità degli uomini, il mondo delle arti, e Anna Magnani”.
Una donna che ha lottato tutta la vita contro una società maschilista, vincendo tante battaglie, tanti tradimenti, tante delusioni.
Una donna che ha vissuto, amato e lavorato rimanendo sempre se stessa.
Ha lasciato un segno indelebile sia artisticamente che umanamente.

“Nannarella”, as her “fans” used to call her, in an affectionate way, is one of the few Italian personalities to have a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame, the famous street in Hollywood where 2000 five pointed stars embedded bear the names of celebrities, honoured for their contribution- directly or indirectlyto the star system and entertainment industry.
Not only, in March 21st 1956 she was the first Italian interpreter in the history of Academy Awards to win
the Academy Award because the best actress granted to her for the interpretation of Serafina Delle Rose in the movie La Rosa Tatuata 1955, with Burt Lancaster directed by Daniel Mann leading actor. For the same role she also won a BAFTA as international actress of the year and the Golden Globe for the best actress in a dramatic film.
It is said that when Jury Gagarin aboard the Vostok in April 12th 1967 made the first rotation around the Earth, said “I welcome the fraternity of men, the world of Art and Anna Magnani.
The exhibition wants to tell Anna Magnani through the places that were the back drop to her life, then her Rome with its squares, streets and suburbs and through iconic images that have made her icon. Images however revisited according to the contemporary vision of the artist.
So, it emerges a woman who has fought all her life against a male—dominated society-, winning a lot of battles, betrays and disappointments.
A woman, who lived, loved and worked remaining always herself.
Trough the boards , the exhibition traces back the artistic life and those rare moments made public, which left indelible marks both artistically and personally.
Her troubles, her passion, her love for life gave every character a soul and almost always gave her the chance to show the redemption of an entire people.
Songs, poems and celebrated exhibitions were written for her, in 2002 even the MoMA in New York wanted to pay tribute to her dedicating a retrospective which together with the interpretation that left us, help us to keep her memory alive.
